Nephi Resumes his Commentary |
Although these are the small plates of Nephi, he didn't monopolize the space (i.e. "These are MY plates! Get you own if you want to write your stuff"). He graciously went through the trouble of engraving both his father's and his younger brother's teachings.
Nephi will quote more prophecies from Isaiah.
His purpose is to prove the truth about Christ (2,4)

Nephi Quotes Isaiah's Prophecies |
In the latter days the people of the world will seek Zion to be taught (1-4)
. Because of the governing
principle of delegation of authority, the Lord will not come to earth to
do the teaching himself. He is going to ask us to do it. We will
teach the world how to convert their swords into plowshares-that implies
teaching them how to run their national economies without a defense industry.
We will teach them to not lift up sword, and thus teach them to trust,
love, etc.
No one will escape the day of the Lord:
it will come over Wall Street, Beijing, Hollywood, Medellín, etc.

Warning to the daughters of Zion who engage
in worldly behavior (16-17)
. Consider
these words from the Prophet Joseph Smith, applicable to all members of
the Church:
"How vain and trifling have been our spirits, ... our meetings, our private as well as public conversations -- too low, too mean, too vulgar, too condescending for the dignified characters of the called and chosen of God ...We are called to hold the keys of the mysteries of those things that have been kept hid from the foundation of the world until now. Some have tasted a little of these things, many of which are to be poured down from heaven upon the heads of babes; yea, upon the weak, obscure and despised ones of the earth.
Therefore we beseech of you, ... let honesty, and sobriety, and candor, and solemnity, and virtue, and pureness, and meekness, and simplicity crown our heads in every place ..." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p.137)
