Sections 121 and 122

Read Doctrine and Covenants sections 121 and 122

Section 121

- Curse upon those who lift their heels against the Lord's anointed (16-22)

- Notice that this curse only applies to those who oppose righteous leaders who are accomplishing the will of the Lord, or to those who "swear falsely" against the Lord's servants

- We should not speak evil of church leaders; but as church leaders we should not give any reasons for people to speak any evil about us.  The Lord's mandate should not be used to cover-up nor justify anyone's wicked actions.  We do not believe in infallibility of mortal leaders.

- There is a time appointed unto every man according to preordained works (25)

- Promise of hidden knowledge in the last days (26-33)

- Many are called, but few are chosen (34-40)

- The rights of the priesthood are connected with the powers of heaven (36)

- The opposite of this sentence: the powers of heaven can be controlled or handled (or manipulated) through the principles of righteousness

- How the priesthood works, or how to control the powers of heaven  (41-45)

- Doctrine of the priesthood to distill in our souls

Soul = body and spirit (remember D&C 88:15)

To Distill - to send or pour forth in small quantities; to let fall or precipitate in drops; to subject to or to transform by distillation; to make concentrated by abridgment and purification or by the extraction of an essential or typical portion.

Distillation - the process of driving off gas or vapor from liquids or solids by heating and condensing to liquid products; process used for purification, fractionation (D&C 6:2; 33:1), or the formation of new substances

- How to gain everlasting dominion  (46)

- No compulsory means needed; it can only be achieved through righteousness and truth

Section 122

The Prophet Joseph had been incarcerated since November 28, 1838; this revelation came on or around March 20, 1839, or almost 4 months after the incarceration; his release happened on April 16, or almost a month later

What insights does this bring on how fast the Lord answers our prayers?

What insights does this bring on adversity in this life?

Read verse 7 - How do the following statements differ between them: "these things shall give thee experience" vs. "these things shall serve as experience"

Read verse 8 - Christ followed this path; can we do it in any other way?

- The righteous seek counsel, authority, and blessings from the Lord's anointed  (2)

- Promise of honor  (1-4, 9)
