Sections 90 thru 93

Read Doctrine and Covenants sections 90 thru 93

Section 90

- The Prophet Joseph Smith holds the keys of this dispensation even in the spirit world (3)

- Counselors in a presidency have equal standing with the president (6)

- They can't act independent of the president (Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual (2017), p.504)

However, perfect unity will make counselors act in perfect accordance with president, even when he/she is absent. This goal (perfect unity) is not achieved overnight; it requires true friendship, love, and trust among the members of the presidency, and such feelings can be only be nurtured over a certain period of time. No righteous president should repress, put down, isolate, or limit a counselor (consider the insights proposed in D&C 107:99)

- The day will come in which the Lord will use his power to convince the nations (10)

- The gospel is to be preached in different tongues and languages (11)

Why the apparent repetition?
Tongue = spoken language
Language = a systematic means of communicating ideas or feelings; a people or a nation as distinguished by its speech
In other words, "language" may refer to the cultural aspects of communication.  Attention to this aspect may increase the effectiveness of the missionary work.

- Another requirement for presidencies (15)

- Duties of the presidency:  (16-18)

- A promise for the Saints (24)

- Angels rejoice with repentance (34)

- Zion will be purified (36)

Section 93

- The requirements to see God (1)

  • Forsake sins
  • Come unto God
  • Call on his name
  • Obey his voice
  • Keep his commandments
  • - Christ's path to glory: no immediate fulness, but grace for grace, and from grace to grace (12-13, 16-17)

Grace: God's merciful kindness, power, and gifts, extended to mortals for their perfection and sanctification (Doctrine and Covenants Student Manual (2017), chapter 36; p.515)

    - Our path to glory is the same as Christ's (20)

    - The information given in the beginning of this revelation was meant to teach us what we worship, how to worship, and how to receive the fulness of the Father (19)

Worship = the reverence or veneration tendered a divine being. Respect, admiration or devotion for an object of esteem. Act, process, or instance of expressing such veneration by performing or taking part in religious exercises or ritual
    - The Lord's definition of "truth" (24-25)
If there are conflicting definitions of truth in the world, it is because they are false; in fact, doctrinal or philosophical controversy exists because of wrong or false explanations mingled with true principles

Read President Spencer W. Kimball's article "Absolute Truth" (Ensign, September 1978, pp.3-8)

    - Glory and omniscience come through obedience. The wicked one takes away light and truth through disobedience (27-28, 39)

    - All truth is independent, otherwise there is no existence (30)

    - There is condemnation for those who do not receive light (32)

    - Fulness of joy will be achieved only after the resurrection (33-34)

    - Man is the tabernacle of God (35)

Tabernacle = a portable sanctuary; a temporary place of worship not conforming to traditional church architecture; a dwelling place; a meetinghouse with a large assembly hall

    - The glory of God is intelligence (36-37)

    - Our spirits were innocent in the beginning and we are innocent during our infancy (38)

    - The Lord wants Church leaders to take good care of their families (40,42,48-50)

    - We are the Lord's friends and servants (45-46)

    - We must obtain knowledge about the world, in addition to gospel knowledge (53)
